Please go back and read the very first post. *Please read the ENTIRE POST. *It tells you EXACTLY WHICH U.S. MODEL NUMBERS can play the game.
All PS3s have backwards compatibility with PSX games, so just because you can play a PSX game doesn't necessarily mean you can play a PS2 game.
I have a PS3 that plays PS2 games but Ultimate Ninja 3 didn't play whenit was released but did play on my PS3 after a few months so i amwondering if Ultimate Ninja 4 is playable now.
great news!!! the latest firmware update will allow you to play ultimate ninja 4! finally! woot! just thought i'd give a heads up to everyone still waiting for it to work. i've been playing since last night and haven't had a problem yet.
I quoted the post from jmk1999 to show that the 80GB model CECHE01 has been able to be played since 25 June 2009. *That was almost a year ago.
We already have the 3 models that can play PS2 games listed in the first post, cobdogred. *He wanted to know if UN4 was playable on the 80GB model that is backwards compatible - it is.

Re: PS3 Backwards Compatability
Well, now in the Playstation Store they have this new download called the Ps2 System Data. This will allow you to play PS2 games. But there are certain PS2 games you can/cannot play. Not all PS2 games will work in the PS3.
But also, most likely, you can play ANY PS1 games.*

The PS2 System Data in the PlayStation Store does not allow you to play PS2 games on any PS3. *I only listed 3 models of the PS3 that allow you to play PS2 games - and those are the only 3 models of the PS3 that CAN play PS2 games.
Sony has STOPPED supporting backwards compatibility in PS3s. *None of the PS3 Slim models can play any PS2 games. *You can download the PS2 system data to a slim PS3 as many times as you want - you will not be able to play PS2 games.
The PS2 System Data in the PlayStation Store is to assist games that utilized the PS2 hard drive feature for games like Final Fantasy XI. *The Network Adapter for the fat PS2s had the ability to put a hard drive in it as well - this allowed for games to install to a hard drive and get updates for gameplay. *However, there are pretty much no PS2 games that use a hard drive. *In fact, I can only think of 1 - Final Fantasy XI.

Tiger's right, downloading this will not let me play Ps2 games on my Ps3
And yeah, I can play ALMOST ANY Ps1 game, but I can't play Ape Escape on my Ps3 Not that I care, but the analog sticks don't work with this game Don't know if it's just with my game or with everyone...

I think Ape Escape is on the PSN anyway... *The incompatibility with the analog sticks comes from the days when PSX didn't have analog sticks - some PSX games booted with the analog sticks turned off so that it could display an error about the controller being unsupported or something - but then you could push the "dual" or "analog" button in the middle of the controller to turn it on. *I think you can do the same thing with a PS3, hold the PS button until the controller menu appears, then you should be able to switch on the analog controls.
If that doesn't work, there is always the PSN version of the game. *It's what, like $5? *$10?
