Kakuzu fought the first Hokage and got his ass kicked and ended up runnining away and failing the mission which is ultimately what lead to him becoming a missing nin since he resented his superious for giving him **** for his failure since he had no realistic chance of winning in the first place and they all knew it.

Well yah, he could pretty much solo anyone in the entire war short of Madara and Sasuke. Watch him Destroy Zombie Nagato and Itachi combined in seconds to show his progress. It'll take a few chapters for him to actually reach the battle field since he has a long way to travel but when he does expect his entrance to be big and him to completely own who ever he ends up facing.

Strongest Nin? Sage of the 6 paths, had the 10 tails, manipulate reality, and just overall a bamf.

Under him, Third Hokage in his prime, that fact he was the strongest of his gen and he has some strong contenders speaks words. What do I mean? He doesn't use bloodline or special chakra abilities and still came out on top.

Fourth Hokage, master of time-space jutsu, sealing jutsu, and created powerful jutsu by studying others like the rasengan, and had high stamina.

First Hokage, defeated Madara in his prime who was also using the nine-tails, the first also could make tailed beasts his pets and was a master of wood element chakra.

Sakumo, Kakashi's father, was said to be stronger than the sannin in his prime.

Mito Uzumaki, sealed a tailed beast in herself, nuff said.

Onoki, one of the few remaining of the third generation, he fought madara at one point, and is still a kage and carry on his predecessors jutsu, dust element to deadly potency despite old age and a bad back.

Hanzo, in his height of power was stronger than the sannin and the samurai ruler, has a poison salamander's poison gland in him.

Killer Bee, one of four tailed beast masters, master of lighting chakra flow, and make tsukiyomi useless.

^^ Very True, However, I think the First Hokage may be stronger than The Fourth for a couple of reasons.

Hashirama Senju DIDNT have to sacrifice himself in order to save the village from Madara or the Tailed Beast unlike Minato
Hashirama's Physical power FAR SURPASSES any shinobi. His wood element is amazing and very formidable, but his ADAMANTINE power is legendary.
If they were to fight I believe it would last a VERY VERY long time. Minato might be able to win because of the fact Hashirama is not as fast as him, plus the fact that he could last longer in a fight, plus the fact Minato could avoid multiple attacks from Hashirama.
But, both Hashirama and Minato are shinobi of legend. There is a reason Minato Namikaze was given a flee on sight order... People mistake and take for granted his calm spirit and personality. But when it comes to protecting the things he loves, ITS ON AND CRACKING. He is not to be taken lightly at all.
Every other Hokage has the title, "The First Hokage, The Second Hokage." Minato is the only Kage ive ever seen to have the title "The LEGENDARY Fourth Hokage" In the manga when the leaf shinobi wanted to attack the fox and keep it away from the village along with The Third Hokage, Sarutobi said no, he chose to wait for Minato. I BELIEVE THAT HE KNEW ALL ALONG that Minato was the only one who could defeat the fox.... But Yeah... =P

My list isn't in any order.

Okay guy's think logically, first of all madara lost to the first hokage because he needed the dna of the first, it's kinda like itachi's battle with sasuke, it's impossible to fight someone when you're objective is doing something else than fighting.
I mean you have seen madara's power now, no one seems to be able to fight him even if he is a shell of his 'old self'. Konan had to use 6 billion explosive tags just to get him and lets face it no one else than Konan has an ability that can last for 6 minutes or more.

Another error you seem to have mistaken or made up, Minato has never been stated to be the strongest hokage, Hiruzen in his prime was said to be 'the god of shinobi'. The fact that he fought Orochimaru, and his to undead masters (first and second hokage) and almost managed to beat them all in his 70's shows his strenght. But you are probably right if Minato had lived he would have outclassed all others.

Pain was stated to be the most powerful man in Akatsuki even by madara so he should be on the list.

Naruto and Sasuke both deserve on the list since both of them have outgrown their powerful 'family members'. You guys keep mentioning the nine-tails power, but remember naruto's regular chakra level and skill has nothing to do with that, actually the nine tails halted naruto as a young ninja because naruto used some of his chakra to reject the nine tails(jiraya and ebisu stated that naruto's bad chakra control stemmed from this). In addition when naruto went on rampage against pain, naruto's nine tail power didn't actually do anything in the battle(technically). He pushed pain alot but he really didn't kill a single pain, because he had already defeated 5 of 6 using sage mode. Now with the nine tails power under his control, his power level has vastly increased.
Sasuke has already surpassed itachi. I'm not talking about their fight, that would have been unfair to itachi because he was on the verge of death(disease), he had reached the limit of his mangeyoku(almost blind), and he had already decided to lose. But my point is that sasuke is way stronger than back then. Again Eternal mangeyoku eyesight regained, powerlevel unknown, stronger than A the raikage.

Kakashi, possibly the most skilled ninja in history, has room for improvements but has very low chakra(self admitted) and stamina. NOT on the list.

Jiraya strongest sannin, fought orochimaru when he was drunk, pain stated that he would have lost if jiraya had known about the six paths from the beginning. Large chakra supplies and stamina, sage, skilled.

Though not confirmed i think that Muu is stronger than Onoki (second and third tsuchikages) as everybody feared him, and the second mizukage was equally powerful.

My list, though no special power order.

1. Madara Uchiha, reason: unmatched, rinnegan, experience, space time jutsu

2. Sasuke Uchiha, reason: Genius, eternal mangeyoku

3. Naruto Uzumaki reason: Large chakra and stamina, sage mode, genius, kyuubi

4. Namikaze Minato, reason: genius, space time jutsu, hokage

5. Hiruzen Sarutobi,reason: god of shinobi, countless jutsu, hokage

6. Nagato (Pain), reason: rinnegan, uzumaki clan, genius

7. Jiraya, reason: sannin, large chakra and stamina, sage mode

8. Itachi Uchiha: Genius above all others, Akatsuki, among the strongest Uchiha

9. Muu or Onoki: Muu, reason: invisibilty, dust style. Onoki: was stronger in prime, dust style

10. First Hokage, Senju Hashirama, reason: wood style, taled beast control, hokage

I'm just going to say if you're going for someone's dna their are easier ways to get it then to fight the guy. I mean Orchimaru managed to do it by himself long after the guy was dead for his experiments

Look at Batman beyond, they managed to clone Batman simply by collecting a blood sample from one of his many fights easy as pie.

All he had to do was hypnotize a medical ninja doing the guys treatments and he'd have been golden and not had to risk his own health in the process.

The plain fact of the matter is Madara even in his prime couldn't beat the first hokage. He essentially crippled himself just to get a dna sample proving he isn't the sharpest kunai in the drawer.
