So I got the latest Shonen Jump in the mail today and was puzzled by the cover...
Instead of only featuring one month like usual it had two.... June/July.
"That can't be right, Shonen jump is a monthly magazine. They can't really do a double issue like Japan does for stuff like Golden week."
But apparently they can as when I checked the subscription card a years subscription is for 10 issues.... Not the standard 12...
Talk about lame, it's bad enough the magazine is shrinking and has less manga featured but did we really need it to trail even further behind it's Japanese counterpart then before and get even less bang for our buck?
I just resubscribed too in March (In order not to be a pirate) under the old terms so now I'll have to check with their customer service to make sure I'm getting the 24 issues they owe me not just 20
Ok I talked with customer service and this is the result.
Basically they are still toying with the idea of having less issues and it has not be finalized yet.
If you go online the only way to subcribe is still the same old system by year rather then 10 issues or 15 issues like it had on the new subcription cards. Albit the price has gone up.
When I resubscribed in March I paid $62.18 Canadian for 2 years. Now it's $73. So they might just be upping the price rather then cutting back.
When/IF they decide to cut back subscribers will get a letter in the mail from the editor explaining the situation.
Man that really sucks i dont have a subscription but i still get it month after month u are right midori the selection of manga sucks the only two i read now is naruto and one piece they use to be so awsome i wondered wat happened
and i never said this before but when they had their first fan art contest which i think was two year ago they had a catogory for drawing a character from any anime i turned mine in when i found out the results on the web page 3 months later. the top 3 in the catogory i entered my drawing in the top 3 in their were all males (y am i not surprised) and not to be rude but two out of the 3 drawings sucked and one of them was similar to mine i dont know if they were being sextist or what but let me just say this SHONEN JUMP IS OFFICALLY GOING DOWN HILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P
I was pretty pissed when they quietly canceled Ultimo a few issues ago as that was the only series that was being printed in the magazine that I hadn't already read online.
They seriously need to stop doing a series for about a year like Yu gi oh GX then taking it out in an effort to force people to pick up the graphic novels volumes. I despise that since I don't have either the money nor the shelf space to make that practical to do.

Shelf space is why I stopped buy SJ, I just go read chap or two and decide if the series interests me enough to continue it volume by volume, right I am max supporting 4 series one of which is a manwha.
Shonen Jump has been getting worse since...last year. they rely too much on Naruto,Bleach, and One Piece. sure a lot of people like them but there also those who dont. if you want to please them, put in series that you'd think they'd like!!!
I used to buy Jump since the time it came out. They used to have articles about manga in Japan that wasnt published in the US, and more interviews about other mangaka. Now they have video game crap articles that isnt even manga related and have a new series every few months just to drop them. they now hav 4 or 5 series a month when back then they had 8 including Naruto,Bleach, and One Piece. they take everything away except those 3 when they think its okay. they never think about what the readers want and probably ignore our surveys or just read the ones that make them feel better.
they should take advice from people who have read Shonen Jump since it was published in the US becuz they need advice from people who actually care about the magazine and think its going down a bad road. the magazine has to rely on readers or its just going to turn into past magazine like Shojo Beat and Newtype USA.
And now that they have 10 issues a month thats starting to make me think whether i should stop buying Shonen Jump overall. i honestly luv JUMP but if it they keep on going downhill i really will stop buying. im getting a one year subscription only becuz my friend wants these yugioh cards but once my subscription is over ill probably stop buying Shonen Jump and buy graphic novels instead of the magazine.
